Hope and Rigor

When I sit alone, having been alone now for many months
I realize Peace is my companion
That was not the case for much of this lifetime
I was fastly tethered to my emotions and commitments

Thousands of hours of seeking and meditating later
I know that hope and rigor have been my true companions
When deeply sad, angry, frustrated or out of sorts
I learned in Silence to search out hope

Hope was a little spark among the heaviness
It grew out of making my mind go to gratitude
It grew out of the determination to clear the darkness
Again and again, I learned that facing the dark feelings worked

I tried for years to ignore all problems, fastidiously
I could make myself really believe I was not angry or sad
Especially when I was most indeed angry or sad
Or when I thought that ignoring my feelings could work

Usually I exploded with some unkind response to my family
Before I began to realize that I thought I was being good
By ignoring the heavy emotions that accompanied my life
But I was really just letting them fester until they burst forth

Ugh! So much nastiness got sprayed on those around me
Before I realized I could take the hard stuff into Silence
That I could bring my feelings to that eternal table
That I would actually be heard and my feelings could transform

First I had to wrestle with having the right to ask for help
Then I had to work on being worthy of being heard and responded to
Then I had to learn to trust that the healing coming in would be enough
Then I learned to be grateful for something I never ever thought could happen

The Ocean and The Silence

Walking by the ocean fills me up
I feel the lightness as the breeze arrives
I touch to the expanse and my worries dissipate
This is my happy place calling me to myself

I love the sound of the endless waves
I like their reassurance of permanence
I love the blueness and the softness of the sand
I know I am called inward as I walk the strand

I have lived near the ocean all my life
I can’t even imagine living far inland
I need the big water near me even
If I don’t get there as often as I would like

Knowing I can be there in a couple of hours
Is something like knowing I can always enter Silence
And a palpable calmness can be touched to
Silence and the ocean are similar in many ways

They are both filled with the unknown
They are both waiting for me always
One in a soothing form I can touch
One in soothing formlessness that touches me

I am so amazed when I enter into Silence
And a vibration around my heart begins to pulse
It is like nothing on Earth really
It is coming from beyond me, welcoming

The beckoning of kindness
The reassurance of safety
The joining of me wherever my mind is
The total sense of reliability

Both Silence and the ocean have these gifts
They settle me and remind me I am loved
They bring me right into the present moment
Inviting me to let both the past and future go

I am never so connected as when the ocean and I are one
I never feel so loved as when Silence and I have a rendezvous
I return to all life’s challenges with a quiet demeanor
One that carries both the ocean and the Silence within

Inner Work Is Calling

Where have my happy places gone?
I miss my friends and my own laughter
I long to have things to look forward to
The thrill of celebration is strangely muted

I did not fully realize that my life
Was organized around looking forward to newness
Seeking all that is sparkly and unique
Escaping from daily life by going out on the town

By Andrey Zvyagintsev

Isolation is a mighty and strange condition
It brings up sticky issues and feelings
I absolutely do not care to revisit, yet still
Audaciously get right up in my face, uninvited

In the corner awaits the thorny work
Around every block, my frustrations flair
While totally minding my own business
Old pains emerge that I had successfully buried

When all distractions are taken away
The inner work boldly presents to fill the void
Of course, I have to choose to see it
I had become so adept at hiding from it

With an abundance of down time
A total paucity of scheduled events
Prickly issues keep erupting from within
Saying, here I am again, remember me?

By Thanh-Tran

You can’t escape me forever
No way girl, I’ve got your number
I am still here, always just hiding
Until you mess up again for real

I am waiting you out in the long game
Sporting infinite patience and perfect timing
With so few distractions at present,
Give that saggy ‘ole self-perception, the boot

Go ahead, give a try at being your best self
Set down that old irritation and anger forever
Spend some more time with the Great Spirit
We have lots more juicy things to talk about

The Heart of the Nation

The heart of the nation is raw
With fear and violence
Burning anger and rage
Beatings, smashing, and killings

And still we do not see
That we are part of the cause
We are the blinded ones
We are hiding from the darkness

We live in safe communities
And hope the discomfort
Quickly passes us by
With little disruption to our lives

Let others do the marching
Let others deal with the fall out
Surely this will “return to normal”
Sooner than later, as swiftly as possible

But the images are so bloody
What if we were one of those
Being singled out for our skin color
Being chased and killed through hatred

We want protections from this happening
We want everyone to make this go away
We want the cops to stop being racist
We want those killings to cease and desist

But it is not only the killings
It is living in abject fear of being singled out
Living with constant need to keep one’s head down
Every single day in public and never feeling safe

This causes entrenched resentment
Deep anger, righteous indignation
Mistrust and more segregated communities
Mistreatment for all while everyone lives in fear

When one among us is at risk
We are all at risk because we tolerate
Those among us who are at risk
And go about our lives as if we are separate

Nothing works when this is the response
No one learns to change, when isolated
No one practices compassion unless
Closeness is personal and meaningful

Beware, our feeling bad does not change a thing
The compassion felt from TV news touches no one
The shaking of one’s head and returning to normal
Leaves those at risk, still at risk

All have to stand for justice
For freedom, for goodness for all
For opportunities for all
For good systems available to all

This has to be the way forward
To stem the flood of sorrow and grief
Beyond simply patching up the brokenhearted
All have to banish racism in all forms

Then all become truly safe and whole
No other way works for all people
And so it is, for now and for always
With determined hearts, so it can be.

Divine Love, for the Taking

Once upon a spiritual path, always upon a spiritual path
One cannot stop or get off the path, though myriads of detours may present
You may spend years or lifetimes hiding from spiritual revelations
You will still be on a spiritual path to expanded consciousness

By Priscilla-du-Preez

However, you can also choose to never open to your spiritual self
Then you are closed to all the fullness of connection with Spirit
You see the world as finite and limit your vision to what can be seen
It is your choice and yet, the option to open spiritually, always remains

You live in a benevolent, loving space of wholeness and grace
You have the free-will to see this or not to see this
You have the option to grow the loving space
You also have the option to ignore all loving space

Fear and doubt can lead you on extensive explorations of disbelief
Envy and greed can manifest fantabulous experiences of grandeur and power
Loss and suffering can be the lens to your life as you choose
Pain and guilt can fill your daily experiences just as you wish

Every person comes with baggage from the past
This baggage keeps growing or is purged as you desire
Every single unpleasant experience ever is waiting for you to heal
Every unpleasant experience, memory or energy can be healed, bar none

So, go within with the intention of opening to The Oneness
Even if you have no idea of what the Oneness is
Opening to IT is the doorway you may be seeking
Opening to the Oneness is ultimately why you are in body

You take a tour in body to learn what cannot be learned any other way
You spend this time among the goodness and the darkness
You spend this time in body to realize you can always be connected
To the Greater Whole just by desiring it and going within

Every person living in  body is here to determine
How to grow more profoundly connected to All That Is
As eternal souls, what else would you be doing, anyway?
What else could possibly compete with Divine Love?
