Walking in Integrity

To walk in integrity, we have to lose our fear about the future.  We have to embrace the Goodness of God.  We have to wrestle our human thoughts about appearances to the ground.

Siberian Tigers Play Wrestling in the Water by Abysim

Above all, we have to speak our truth. This is walking in integrity.  When we are walking in integrity, we are able to be at peace within, in a deeply whole way.

Stewart, a graduate student, competed for and was awarded a paid summer internship paying $7000. He was thrilled. The program’s literature guaranteed a good match for the selected students with organizations in the area.  Stewart was tentatively matched with an assignment in a public school system.  After the interview in the school, he realized that he had already done that same type of work 4 years earlier and had moved on from there in the intervening years. When no other placements were actually available, he told the granting organization this placement was not a good match for him.  They strongly advised him to take the placement and told him if he did not,  they would “be obliged” to call his college and say that he reneged on his contract.

He was both disappointed about the mismatch and yet offended by the treatment he had received through veiled threats and serious arm twisting to take a job which was so clearly a bad match for him.  After a second round of meetings, and a lot of soul searching,  Stewart respectfully resigned the paid internship.  By the time he made his decision,  he was in a good place looking forward to a summer of doing his own research and work.  The very day he let this go, however, he was asked to join a team in Africa to work on more efficient ways to deliver medical support for malaria.  This offer was a much better match for Stewart on many levels.

This is a situation where walking in integrity paid off in a rather dramatic turn of events.  In one conversation, we talked about Tom Stoppard’s line, “every exit is an entrance somewhere else.” This was truly Stewart’s experience.  However, he alone had to weight the consequences and act.  He was the only person who could decide what walking in integrity was for him.

One characteristic of being in integrity is that it requires deep personal soul searching at times.  It requires getting our ego out of the way and listening to the energy of the Highest Good.  Walking in integrity often requires facing our doubts, fears and misgivings rather than taking the expected option or path because of the promised rewards. At the end of the day, walking in integrity requires courage, the conviction of the heart that if something is not a good option, the right options will present in the fullness of time.

Meravigliosa Creatura II by dBencheci

One great way to walk in integrity is to write to God or talk to God.  This way, we are not tempted to shade things, twist motivations or color the truth.  We can more easily speak the truth because we know all is already known anyway. Making up a good story for God is a futile act. When we communicate with the All Knowing Divine Presence, we can frequently find out what integrity looks like.  It is never too late to walk in integrity around issues in the past or present.

When Ria began a spiritual practice of meditation, her world began to change.  She began to realize just how unkindly she had treated some of the men she had dated much earlier in her life.  She felt deep guilt and shame around some of her actions and was at a loss to know what to do.  Though she was not in touch with any of these men anymore, the drive to “make things right” would not go away.  She was led to write in her journal to each of the mistreated men, to say clearly what she needed to say, and to ask for forgiveness.  She worked on this process until all the men she had mistreated had been written to in her journal, before God and until she felt whole and clean.  Nearing the end of this process, she had a service for the men of her past.  She blessed each one of them, acknowledged what she had learned from them, asked again for forgiveness  and gave all her shame and guilt to God.  She had walked in integrity with the past.

Where might you need to walk in integrity?  What is keeping you from making amends with your past or your present? Might you be prostituting yourself for the sake of money, prestige, reputation, influence or recognition?

Rock Balance by Marty. FM

All things, no matter what they consist of, can be taken to God/the Great Knowing/the Oneness.  When we take steps to walk in integrity we come into Right Relationship with ourselves, with others and with God.  We come to a place of deep inner balance and peace.  There are ALWAYS better options for us than remaining out of integrity with ourselves and our lives. As we come into integrity, we manifest more balance in our lives, more love and more forgiveness.  Our lives can be literally transformed by taking a walk with integrity.

All acts of the past, those in integrity and those out of integrity are traveling along with us.  Any set of actions we have taken which have been out of integrity are negatively affecting us in one way or another.  We are the accumulations of our past actions, thoughts, deeds and feelings.  Only when we bring those into the space of integrity can we be truly at Peace.   Go hunting for places where you are not walking in integrity. You will be supported beyond your wildest imagination by the Presence of God.

Steps to Integrity

1. Open a Sacred Space with Divine Energy/God/Ascended Masters/Angels and your Highest Self, to support your work.

2. Name the specific person(s) or incident where you are out of integrity with All That Is.

3. Speak or write to God about the feelings you have regarding your situation. Name your fears.  Go thoroughly into this situation and explore it deeply.

4. Ask for the support you need, a way out, a way to let it go of the guilt or fear, forgiveness, support in facing what you have done, etc.

5. Give all negative thoughts and feelings to Divine Presence, in writing or out loud.

6. Give thanks for the support you are receiving to walk in integrity.

7. Wait upon the Presence of God to work within your energy field.

8. Repeat this process with other situations or persons until you feel you are walking in full integrity.

Being Eternal

When all seems to be said and done, there is still more to handle, respond to, and integrate, always and forever! We are never said and done.  We are never completely finished, not in death, not in life, not in work, not in love.

Eternal Love by AmpamukA
Eternal Love by AmpamukA

There is always more awaiting us when we are ready to receive it, into our knowing.  We are ETERNAL.  We are eternally presented with more of something or another.  Even in the most severely extreme actions taken to end a life, one is never said and done. It is impossible to finish or end ourselves.  We are always with our being whatever dimension we are living in.  This is an absolute truth for all beings, everywhere.

Eventually,  sometime, somewhere we will begin to hear the small  voice of All That Is which is always with us whether we attend to that voice or not.  Even at the end of deeply  destructive action, we come face-to-face with ourselves and we are IT. There is no getting away from us, from our thoughts, words, deeds and actions.  We are IT.

Being Eternal is a forever process.

Our beings repeatedly move from one dimension to another and pick up where we left off.  We still have to face the same heartache, the same sadness, the same misperceptions, the same feeling of disconnection from God and Divine Love.   As above, so below.  As below, so above.  We are the creators of our own lives.  We are the ones who make choices with what we are given.  We are the ones who give meaning and power to the things which happen to us.  We can do the clearing work now or do the clearing work later, the choice is ours but the blocked energy NEVER simply goes away on its own.

We are inextricably part of All That Is, in mind, body and soul regardless of what we have done, what we are thinking, what we are presently doing or not doing or what we will chose to do in the future.  We create our own lives, the good and the bad, for the sole purpose of healing our souls from the separateness we feel from the Greater Whole. Why do bad things happen to us?  Why do good things happen to us?  We are on a journey and each of us will have the precise and exact situations we need to heal our souls.

Upon my return from India three years ago, I experienced 10 days of amoebic dysentery and 4 weeks of a serious, painful knee infection which had me in bed for over 2 weeks and on crutches for another 2 weeks beyond that, affecting all my systems because of the bacteria.

I had been on a spiritual journey to an ashram while in India.  You can imagine my outrage, anger and ranting about having such a thing happen to me when I had “put out” so much to make that trip!  What had I done “to deserve that reaction” in my life?   I was not at this level of outrage on the first day of the dysentery nor even during the first week of the infection but as it wore on and on, I wore out, more and more.  I felt exhaustion, weakness, pain, pain, pain and then anger, fear, rage, blame and finally release.  Ah, the sweet energy of surrender!

I finally saw that the entire experience was for me to GET THE SPIRITUAL MESSAGES of the trip and to integrate that knowing into every aspect of my being, including deep and serious illness.  I am not a super “swifty” in this type of learning!  However, with enough pain and discomfort, I did have to stop railing, begin meditating and praying, and eventually, let go.

I was supported in this odyssey by a book I had gotten in India written about a spiritual mystic, entitled Sri Aurobindo or the Adventure of Consciousness* by Satprem.  During the endless days of my debilitating imbalance, I read this book.  My strong emotions were raging around and then I got to chapter 14.  Here was something that struck to the very core of my being:

We cannot heal unless we heal all the way down and we cannot go all the way down unless we go all the way up.  The deeper we want to descend, the more powerful the light we need, otherwise we are eaten alive. … Ultimately, progress is not so much a matter of ascending as of clearing all that obstructs — when we are clear, everything is THERE.   …..When the seeker has had a first decisive opening above, when he has seen the Light, he almost simultaneously feels a battering below, as if something in him were aching.  …And he will have learned his first lesson: we cannot take one step above without taking one step below… As soon as we have touched a certain intensity of consciousness or light, it automatically exerts a pressure on the rest of our nature and brings out the corresponding obscurities or resistances.   *Institut de Recherches Evolutives, Paris, 1996-2003, pgs 235-239.

This extended pain finally made sense.  My confinement and pain was not a punishment, not a “bad thing”, not cooked up for me to suffer.  It was a necessary experience if I was going to really escape all the emotions I had of blaming and raging against the Universe when my body was deeply hurting. Having spent 18 years earlier in my life with debilitating back pain, I was deeply familiar with pain.  However this time, I could see that my body was speaking to me LOUDLY about letting go all blame, anger, outrage and pain.

Resist not evil came hurling into my mind and saturated the pores of my body.  The message was to simply allow and this would pass as well.  It did pass and I had a talk with the Universe to arrange for other means to get my attention if and when I needed such a clearing in the future! I envision an email from God with a clear message, “clean up your act, you need to move on! ” I would hope I would get such a message now and not need more weeks in bed.

Have you gotten any emails from God recently? I had probably gotten lots of  messages which I had not recognized or ignored before my knee episode.  The “big guns” were brought in so that I had to attend to the messages.  May we each attend to the areas of our lives which are bringing us imbalance.  They don’t go away, ever, they just retreat and wait for another occasion to get us to pay attention to what needs clearing and balance in our lives.  As we are eternal through and through, we have all the time we need to learn the lessons before us.

Asking Forgiveness

If we are already forgiven for what we have done, as it says in the Bible, why do we need to ask for forgiveness ourselves?

In Psalm 103, we read, “Praise the Lord with affection and do not forget God’s blessings and benefits, for God forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases.  In summary, therefore, this does say, all is forgiven.

for future generations... by Amanky

Asking for forgiveness, however,  is as much about our receiving forgiveness and knowing we have been forgiven as it is about the asking.  If we don’t ask for the forgiveness we need, we keep carrying around the imbalanced energy of what we have done which has caused that imbalance.  When we receive forgiveness, we reestablish the whole,  we open ourselves to healing and to the blessings of Divine Grace.  That opens up many other options of healing for us as well.  The forgiveness is always in the unformed energy around us.  If we ask for forgiveness, we give it form by making the request, and the vibration actually comes into our energy field bringing a new balance and equilibrium where we have been out of balance.  The Iranian mystic Rumi says, ” if you never know forgiveness, you’ll never know the blessings God gives”.

Forgiveness is a prerequisite to authentic prayer. If we are harboring negative thoughts or feelings in our hearts, they literally short-circuit and neutralize our prayers.  When forgiveness is received, what has been previously blocked or sealed off from love is thereby opened to receive God’s Love.  That’s how it happens.  When we are too filled up with un-forgiveness, there is no room, no space, no place of peace where we can receive the Love of God.  It’s like having a house too full of clutter to be able to offer a guest a place to sit and rest.

You might  feel you have been asking for Divine Healing Presence but that you do not feel it. Why might that be? It is most likely something in the connection and it is probably on our side.   One of the most prevalent reasons for a poor connection with Spirit is blockage because  we need to forgive someone or we need forgiveness ourselves.  Another block may be that we are not consciously seeking a relationship with Divine Energy/God/All That Is.

When we need  forgiveness, we are energetically out of balance.  Therefore, we can’t receive that which we most need, even when it is all around us.  We have to make space for the Energy of God if we want it.  There is almost no way to make space for the Divine Presence without making a conscious effort to do so.  Most of us aren’t likely to run into this energy on our way to work though that is not impossible.

We can live our entire lives without making a conscious effort to connect with our Higher Power.  Why would one want to go to God if we are not sure how we will be received? If we have been raised to believe that we need to be good in order to be loved, we may have a sense of unworthiness before God.  We might not want to acknowledge our  mistakes and the poor choices we have made.  We might not feel worthy of God’s love for ourselves.  It is all too easy to  think of our Higher Power as judging energy.

However, there is little to no “truth vibration” in this judging concept of Divine Presence. We see a judging God as probable because all around us, those in power often act in judging ways.   We might have been told as a child that God is watching so we had better behave.   Isn’t it just accepted that God is like a person, an entity, a being, and usually is separated from us?  Our language reinforces this and we know lots of folks who think this way.

Divine Presence, however,  is boundless energy in all its unformed perfection.  Further that same spark of Divinity is inside every single person in body regardless of how covered over it might be. This has been proven again and again to me through the medium of healing.  I call for healing energy with another, the energy comes,  is received and healing happens.  It does not matter at all who the person is.  This healing energy is available for all.   Based on this experience,  I have developed some ways of asking for help,  which work for me.

How do we ask for forgiveness or for the healing presence of God?

We ask for help

  • knowing that we will always be heard,
  • that God is always for us and never against us,
  • that what is needed is given, and
  • that there is nothing we can do which can make us unworthy of the Love of God.
I cry out to you by Rachel Sian

From John 3, “Beloved, I desire above all else that you may prosper and be in health even as  your soul prospers.” God’s love for us is the constant here.  We essentially cannot earn it because it is freely given, fully given and available all the time.  There is nothing we can do that will set the love of God beyond our reach.  We are loved because we are.  Simply that.  We are, therefore, we are loved.

We are children of the Great I Am/All That Is/God , created in this image, a tiny spark of the Divine.  We can’t do anything that will forever separate us from the Love of God. However, we can be distanced from the Love of God by simply not being tuned into that Love or by not  embracing the fact that there is real, practical help from the Divine for every aspect of our lives.  We can choose to have any kind of relationship with Divine Wholeness we want.  It can be close, trusting and mutually appreciative.  We can have a theoretical relationship with All that Is, one we hold in abeyance in case we might need it someday when things are really bad.  We can also live our lives as if the Love of Divine Oneness is something we heard about in temple, the synagogue or the church.  We just never quite get around to really knowing that love for ourselves or asking for that love to come into our lives in ways we can know its fullness.

What type of relationship do you want with God? All the help you need is fully available to you,  if you ask, if you embrace it, if you listen for it in the Silence of your day.  Sometimes the help shows up without a conscious seeking of it in a particular situation.  Who knows why that is?  I like to think perhaps it is because our deepest desires and needs are always known even when we ourselves are closed to them.  However, I increasingly know when I need help.  If I go after that help,  I feel in the act of asking, I am preparing to receive it when the timing is right.

Put your trust in what which is really worthy of your trust. Put your trust in The Great I AM, your Higher Power.  I spent many years putting my trust in “being somebody”, in “having prestige”, in “being respected”  and in “being really good at what I did” and probably in  a myriad of other conditions, as well.  Many of us have likely spent years putting our trust in others or in our outer, public selves.   Take a step towards getting yourself a new partner for life, one that is always available, immensely powerful and loves you unconditionally.  Get into Right Relationship with God.  Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened.  A vibrant fully actualized relationship with Divine Spirit results in wholeness, peace, health and balance.

  • Start with asking forgiveness for everything you ever needed to ask forgiveness for.
  • Offer forgiveness to all those you need to forgive.
    Atardecer (Madrid) by laullon
  • Find the fountain of gratitude within and visit it daily.
  • Speak with the Great Knowing even though you may feel unprepared, awkward or unworthy.  (Those are all human judgments that will pass with time. )

The risk of stepping out with Divine Oneness is that the experience will be more loving, more insightful and more powerfully present than you can possibly imagine.
